Working with Microsoft as the development resource we created a rich user experience using as much of the out of the functionality as possible. With the basic high level requirement of ‘a mash of BBC, Windows metro and animated’ we created an engaging central communication point, as well as a fully functional news centre coined the ‘News Hub’ which powered the homepage, as their main communication stream along side some other useful info-panels such as to-do lists, RSS feeds & videos. Within the site use customised and branded search results pages, additional content pages based on publishing page layouts & mysites.
It was important to scope the entire user journey of various admins & users. We created persona's to set a common understand of the final user to define their roles & the tasks they would be taking up. By doing this we could use the information to me UX/UI decisions.
With our UI/UX research we knew where to make things simpler for admins & easier for users - by winning them both over we were confident the project would be a success. We created a range of constant UI elements such as buttons. bullets & type face all wrapped within a fresh new brand.
Working with Microsoft we created a selection of page layouts with a range of content types. We worked together to build a library of rich functionality such as content carousels & custom web parts for showing weather, quick polls, info-graphics, rolled up news & much more.
Creating a simple to use search was a high priority. We created great looking search centre that not only was easy to use it kept inline with the brand we had set out. We didn't just search the intranet we connected search to search people, documents & third party systems in one place.
We created a custom theme engine using a base CSS & styles based upon that to enable editors to create custom look & feel SharePoint publishing sites without breaking the Connect brand. This enabled us to create a range of different looks for the many sections within Connect using CSS & image manipulation.
Clear communication was key for Connect being a success. We created a dedicated News Hub that would present all aspect of news to the business. We not only display internal news but we also pulled in external feeds such as Twitter. We created a range of layouts to display news stories whilst uses previous built functionality such as polls to increase interactivity.
The new version of Connect has changed the way people use their company intranet as well as the admins that manage it. It is an essential tool for internal communication as well as collaboration. With the extra functionality, we have brought a small put powerful element of social whilst still keeping the corporate image.
Branding SharePoint has given them ownership, planning & research has communicated the user message in the product and developing SharePoint has enabled a seamless user interface and a fantastic user experience.
